01A number worth opening.
The headline sums official annual agitation totals in the included BPR&D tables. These observations cover state governments of all parties. Each statistical row represents one state or union territory in one observation year.
The map opens into state totals, annual observations, subject classifications and original source pages. Individual cases add the people, event, government context and documented outcome. Each unit keeps its own meaning: agitations, riots, labour disputes and casualties have distinct definitions.

02Government tags follow the date.
INC · Centre identifies central government led by the Indian National Congress. INC · State identifies Congress-led state government. A coalition partner tag identifies participation without attributing leadership to Congress. The case retains its actual government names and jurisdiction.
UPA · Centre applies to established UPA central-government context within Manmohan Singh’s tenure, beginning 22 May 2004 and ending at the 26 May 2014 transition. Year-only or month-only dates that cross a transition receive a qualification.
INDI Alliance refers here to the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, named on 18 July 2023. The guide records its formation date; historical case tags follow the governments actually in office through 2014.
03Government in office. Evidence on record.
Each case names the central and state governments separately and records Congress’s leadership or coalition role at the time. National institutions, Union Territory administration and Union-controlled police retain their own jurisdictional context.
Allegations, inquiry findings, charges, convictions and acquittals retain their distinct legal status. Dated outcomes and original sources establish what happened and who was held accountable.

04Every figure. Its original table.
Annual observations are checked against the original table, observation year, PDF page, source hash and national column totals. Explicit zeros, source blanks and table notes are preserved exactly. The browser connects each numerical observation to its full source context.
Historical Andhra Pradesh includes present Telangana through 2013; historical Jammu and Kashmir includes Ladakh. The Survey of India outline supplies the official national boundary. Approximate markers do not subdivide historical observations.
Calendar 2004 includes the central-government transition. Its source material is retained separately until an original annual agitation table is recovered.
05People, dates and source records.
People and affected communities are identified from public sources. The record distinguishes victims, organisers and policy stakeholders, with the event date, location and government context alongside them.
The case collection joins contemporary news, court documents, parliamentary records and research with original summaries and dated outcomes. Each source retains its publisher, date and document type.

06A record that can be checked.
Reviewed observations feed the map, headline and annual totals. The source watcher checks original documents for revisions. Every published figure retains its observation year, source page and provenance; individual cases retain their evidence and dated outcomes.
The source library connects national tables, commission records, parliamentary documents and judicial findings. Each source family states its unit and period so readers can follow the record from the overview to the original document.

What does the headline count?
The sum of included official annual agitation totals. Individual historical cases are presented in their own collection, with dates, affected people and source links.
How do I explore the last level of data?
Select a state on the map, choose a year, then open its detailed observation. Inspect all six agitation subjects, police-action figures where present, government-period context and the exact original source pages.
How do subjects work?
Primary and related subjects connect cases across the collection. A case retains one record ID wherever it appears.
How are records revised?
Editors compare the record ID, original document, source page and dated outcome before publishing a revision. Source provenance stays attached to the observation.
